A city of an important historical value, Mokpo greets its visitors with its arms wide open and views to remember a lifetime. Not only it has some great hiking spots for nature lovers, but it also has worldâs firstfloating music fountain and the rocks that tell great legends. Also, due to its practicable location, it has a terminus for a number of ferry routes serving islands in the adjacent Yellow Sea and Dadohae National Maritime Park (any island hoppers out there?).
Yudalsan mountain (aka Youngdalsan)
The mountain offers stunning views of numerous islands scattered in the sea and Mokpo city every season, so much so that even the famous singer Lee Nan-young has written a song âThe Tears of Mokpoâ. On the mountain, you can also find an outdoor sculpture park, numerous pavilions (i.e. Dalsunggak,Soyojeong) and legendary rocks. First Rock (Yuldong Rock) is known to be the place where the souls are judged in order to pass to another world, while the Second Rock (Moving Rock) is a place where the souls are allocated a passage either to heaven or another world. As the name literally translates to the place where souls go through!
Mokpo Gatbawi Rock
Take a relaxing walk over the sea to see the Korean Natural Monument no.500. The rocksâ unique shape makes the two standing men appear wearing a traditional Korean hat satgal (a hat made of bamboo). The rock itself is created by none else but the welded tuff solidified by volcanic ashes about 80 million years ago!
Mokpo Bridge
Built in 2012, Mokpo bridge is a 4km long marine bridge of the city connecting the northern port of Mokpo and Gohado Island. Although it is a car-only bridge, itâs beautiful structure can be adored from afar, with its tower and cables shaped into an image of two marvellous cranes.
Mokpo Dancing Sea Fountain
The pride of Mokpo and South Korea itself, Mokpo fountain is worldâs first floating music fountain. Spreading over a length of 150m with the height of 13.5m, it offers stunning music and light performances to its visitors. Seeing the fountain performance with your own eyes will definitely create memories which will last a lifetime.
Mokpo Modern History Museum
Built in 1900, it is one of the oldest modern buildings in Mokpo, and thus holds the name of National Historic Site no.289. After the independence of Korea, the building was used as the Mokpo City Hall and municipal library. However, in 2014, the building was reinvented as a Modern History Museum, which welcomes tourists and locals from all over the world to learn more about the cityâs and countryâs history.

Mokpo Marine Cable Car
One of the top attractions in Mokpo, the Mokpo Cable Car is the longest and highest cable car in South Korea (3.23km in length and 155 meters in height). If you feel brave enough to embark on the adventure, the views of the sea down below and the stunning mountain peaks will make you speechless.
